Carol Adelman, Educational Consultant
Carol Adelman has been through the mazes and challenges of being a parent of a special needs child. In that process she realized several challenges exist and that the solutions and options are not easily available. Families need help navigating the combination of school systems, medical professionals, psychological professionals, occupational and speech therapists, attorneys, nutritionists, and especially insurance companies.
She found that this is the case when dealing with the school systems especially, because there are built in conflicts of interest, mostly financial, that make being aware of our rights and options hard to find.
In her personal search, she visited all of the special needs schools in her area (Marin County) and met with all the groups and organizations that appear to be where to go for answers, yet found that still, the solutions and options are very elusive. Many times after going down the recommended road there were several options that she was never made aware of.
Carol’s role as a parent advocate is to give families objective guidance through the options, rights and strategies they need to know before they are led down a path by a school, doctor, or other professional before they understand the big picture and the hidden issues and agenda that will impede getting what your child needs.
Her network of professionals and experiences over the last 6 years have made her a valuable resource for families new to these challenges, as well as families on the middle of it – struggling with the challenges, secrets and conflicts of interest in the way of them knowing what is available and how to proceed.
Whether its preparing for or attending a SST or IEP meeting, mapping out a plan of action, or helping to set up a program to manage your child’s ongoing challenges, she can help families save time, money and get practical feedback for the various actions needed.
She can be reached by calling our San Francisco location (415) 887-7650 or our Palo Alto Location (650) 268-9787, Ext. 10, or emailing carol@entelechywellness.com.
